At least there won’t be song and dance out of season this time around. After getting back together with Yadi Molina for another year, the Cardinals do the same with Adam Wainwright. There is no free agency for any of this out of season. They will be tied up–and successful with them–the cardinals until the sun goes out and I feel liberated.
No word yet on the details, but they should be announced soon:

Wainwright, 40, looked cooked in 2016-18, when he was posting 4.77 PM in just 362.1 runs in his mid-30s. But the guy has made a comeback in the past few years, and this year he’s been just as good as he was in the prime of his life (3.05 ERA, 3.65 FIP, 206.1 IP). You wouldn’t normally bet a 40-year-old to repeat these kinds of numbers, but we’ve clearly seen some bowlers around his age hold out for another two years. Being a command/control guy helps, although maintaining his superior drive requires great health and physical ability to keep repeating the mechanics over the course of the long season. I’ll admit it: what he does is really impressive.
I’ll admit it too: I hope this year will be the end of the streak, and next year is one of the “Oh, man, you gotta come out on top” seasons.
Update: Huge money, but it’s only a one year deal and it’s been really good, so:
Wainwright’s one-year deal is worth more than $15 million, so his $8 million salary could at least double in 2021. # cards
