There is a problem with preparation at Genius Brands International.
Just over a year after it was announced they were joining Genius Brands, Harold and Jennifer Chizick have exited the company, effective immediately. With this move, Chizicks is also moving away from their two companies: ChizComm and ChizComm Beacon Media.
“We are very disappointed to leave Genius Brands and ChizComm after less than a year of working with Genius Brands. However, our vision on how best to grow the company does not align well with Genius Brands,” say Harold and Jennifer ChizComm. “Last week, Genius Brands imposed organizational changes that reduced our role in the company and were in violation of our agreement with Genius Brands. Efforts to amicably resolve this matter have been unsuccessful. We believe we have been terminated on a ‘no cause’ basis and we now have no choice but to leave company and exploring options for how to recover the remaining large sums owed to us.”
Nearly nine years ago, after the successful marketing and communications successes of Spin Master (twice) and MEGA Brands, Harold Chizick made the decision to take his knowledge in toy marketing and entertainment brands and create a store on his own. On April 12, 2013, Chizick and his wife Jennifer opened ChizComm Ltd. As a full-service marketing and communications agency that aims to launch, market and promote toys, consumer products and children’s entertainment.
With one client, Tech4Kids, ChizComm started operating out of a single office in Toronto. After rapidly expanding and acquiring Beacon Media nearly three years ago, ChizComm now operates offices with aggressively planted flags in Toronto, New Jersey and Los Angeles. Under the terms of the acquisition, ChizComm Ltd. and ChizComm Beacon Media act as independently operating subsidiaries of Genius Brands International.
At the closing of the deal in February 2021, Harold was to continue as CEO of both companies with Jennifer serving as Chief Operating Officer of ChizComm Ltd. Additionally, Harold has been appointed Head of Marketing, Content Sales and Consumer Products for Genius Brands.
As of this writing, ChizComm’s status has been called into question by game book I reached out to Genius Brands for comment.
