L & I Proposes WA Contractor Registration Fee Increases in 2022
Written by publishing team

“The increase is required to ensure that the Contractor Registration Program remains consistent with the fee increases required by law and to help improve the program’s fund balance.”

This is the justification from Washington State’s Labor and Industries (L&I) for proposing a 5.79 percent increase in the cost of contractors to license their work in 2022.

A January 26 session will be held on this proposal

The current fee, which is good for two years, is $117.90. If enacted, the proposal would raise the cost by about $6.80. That’s not huge, but given the current economic climate, and what has happened since the advent of COVID, this will be less well received by builders even in principle.

The hearing will take place on January 26 at 9 a.m. in Olympia. L&I is required to collect fees every two years for contractors, as well as review them every two years”In appreciation of the economic changes reflected in the financial growth factor Via Washington Amendment Act.

Given that a number of sources say the state is actually seeing better income and revenue forecasts, and even after using some of the emergency fund on a rainy day there will still be less money left, one wonders why that cost can’t be offset?

The hearing will, again, be 9 a.m. on January 26. Below can be found a link to watch the meeting attendance digitally. Click the button. If adopted, it will enter into force on April 22, 2022.
