Have you heard the news of the arrival of Amazon to East Tennessee? This means an estimated 800 jobs in 2022.

The online retailer announced Wednesday that it will build a 634,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Alcoa, just a 16-minute drive from Sunsphere.

Interested in joining the Amazon workforce? Here’s what you need to know about Alcoa’s advertised facility and jobs there.

What are Amazon jobs?

Amazon employees at the Alcoa campus will pick, pack, and ship smaller items such as books, electronics, and consumer goods. The facility will be the third in Tennessee to use innovative robotics technology.

Jobs may include package sorters and general warehouse workers. Many of these jobs are entry-level positions.

What are the wages and benefits?

Amazon said 800 full-time jobs, and you’ll pay at least $15 an hour.

The company offers benefits to full-time employees including medical, vision, and dental insurance. It also provides a 401(k) with a 50% company match. These benefits begin on the first day of employment.

In addition, Amazon offers up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave as well as a leave-sharing program where Amazon employees can share vacation time with their spouses whose companies do not offer paid leave.

Amazon’s Ramp Back program offers new parents up to eight weeks of flex time when they return to work.

When will it open?

If the project goes on schedule, construction will be completed in May 2022 and the facility will open in October 2022.

The company will release a hiring announcement for the Alcoa facility as soon as the opening date approaches, but Amazon is always hiring. Visit amazondelivers.jobs/about/warehouse-jobs for more information.

Will I get training?

All Amazon partners will receive safety training and continuing education opportunities through the Amazon Career Choice Program, which pays up to 95% of tuition fees for courses related to required fields. More than 25,000 employees have used this program to earn degrees in information technology, programming, and other fields, according to Amazon’s website.
