When Whole Foods and Amazon joined forces a few years ago, it was a dream come true for Prime members. Offering Whole Foods Prime deals and free two-hour delivery to everyone who’s been part of the Prime family, it probably felt like the good times would never end. That was until recently, when Whole Foods announced that Prime members will now charge delivery fees for groceries.

Starting August 30, Amazon will charge an additional $9.99 for delivery from Whole Foods to Prime members. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on where you live), the new fee will only apply to Prime members who reside in six select cities. Those who live in the greater Detroit area; Greater Boston area; Greater Chicago area; Portland, Maine; Providence, Rhode Island; And Manchester, New Hampshire can expect to see the new fees as part of a new beta program being rolled out by Amazon. But why would they add nearly $10 extra for those who already pay for their annual Prime membership? Obviously, he’ll be able to continue selling Whole Foods for the same price.

According to Bloomberg, Amazon sent customers a notice stating that an additional $9.99 would be a “service fee” to help cover operating costs. In addition, the e-commerce company said Food and wine That while the costs of operating the delivery business increased, they chose to test adding fees to deliveries themselves rather than increasing the price of groceries.

Don’t eat yet though. Other benefits Prime members receive are still available. Meaning Whole Foods Prime deals, the five percent you get when you buy with an Amazon Prime Rewards credit card, and more stays the same. Of course, grocery pickup will remain free in those areas as well.
